New Year's resolution anyone?

Who's making a New Year's resolution in 2013? I'm going to try and be more creative by spending some time in the studio each day. I've been doing some prep by printing up my studio planner for the coming year; you can find the one that I am using here . I'm also going to try and keep up to date here as well as on my facebook page - here's hoping!

Light Box

I have bought myself a little light box to take photos of my work in good lighting - it's really cute and I have had some instruction from the professional photographer in my life. Keep checking back for more professional looking photos of my work

Works in progress

Just a couple of works in progress - I have been using a blog organiser that I came across on Pinterest (http://www.infarrantlycreative.net/2012/02/free-printable-blogplanner.html) I have adapted it for my tablet.  Using it has helped me to focus on what I wanted to achieve this week.  ATC's are nearly ready to post off to my partner for this month and I have some work left to do on the art journal page.

The July Challenge

Well, The July Challenge certainly turned out to be very challenging indeed.  I found the pressure of having to create and blog each day very restricting and once I'd miss a couple of days, I found that I could not get back into it.  I sat in the studio a few times, but just felt very inhibited.  What did I learn?  Let it come naturally and let it flow.  It's not necessary to complete a project in one session; it's not even necessary to complete a project in two or more sessions, it doesn't matter how long it takes.

15th July - Challenge

art-journalling
Finished!  'It' suddenly came to me and I knew what I wanted to do to finish the journal page.  I was going to do some journalling on it, but 'frustration' seemed to have dogged me throughout this page.  I simply entitled it 'Frustration' and left it at that.

14th July - Challenge

The journal page I've been working on has really stumped me - not knowing where to go, what to do, what will look right, so I decided to something completely different to take me away from the paints and papers, I did some knitting.  I have been knitting squares for a blanket for James, so feet up, tv on and I 'clicked' the evening away.

13th July - Challenge

I've made a lovely card for Colin's birthday (Monday) but I can't share that with you yet.  I used the stamps that I got when we were on holiday in Florida.  Colin had seen these stamps and had really liked them.  I thought that they were nice and having used them together, I really like the effect.  As they were Colin's choice, I thought it would be fitting to use them on his card.  Will share with you on his birthday!

I'm on the homepage

I was really pleased when I visited the Yahoo Group, UKATC, that I belong to this morning.  My ATC's have been featured on the homepage.  I have messages from members commenting on my work!

11th July - Challenge

Inspiration was totally absent - I think it went on it's holidays or it was hiding from all the greyness and rain that we have been having.  I didn't get any work done in the studio at all.  Feeling a bit sad about that.

10th July - Challenge

Because my page has not felt right, I have found it difficult to work on the art journal.  Instead, I had a go at sketching a simple face.  It didn't turn out too badly, the shoulders/upper torso was out of proportion to the head, but I suppose that will come .  The sketch is not something that I feel I should make public - I'm not feeling that brave!

9th July - Challenge

Something didn't feel right with the background that I had started.  I decided to go over it with a layer of watered down gesso.  I then sprayed with some Distress Ink with Perfect Pearls in - I'm still not sure!

I'm finding my challenge challenging!

I have made a start on a journal page - I had previously put a layer of gesso on and I have now laid down acrylic paints.

Hobbycraft Haul

Just a few bits to add to the studio equipment.  When in doubt, buy glitter!

I have found a couple of tutorials on You Tube  for drawing faces, so I'm going to give that a go.

6th July - Challenge

I was really shattered following the second day of my suicide intervention workshop.  I glazed a couple of journal pages as they had remained sticky following work on them - hopefully this will remedy this problem.

5th July - Challenge

mini-book
mini-book
I have been on a suicide intervention skills training today (day one of two) and it's been a long, challenging day.  We were given homework; self-care!  Working in the studio was an obvious choice for me and in the short time that I had, I created two journal pages.  One in the mini book and one in my small journal.  I also put gesso on a page in my large journal and left it to dry naturally.  I have found that I prefer the gesso to dry naturally, the texture seems different if I use a heat gun to dry it.

I used a tag to do some journalling in the small journal and allowed myself to just write what came to mind instead of thinking too much first.  It seems that some thoughts from the training had stayed with me.

4th July - Challenge

Left it a bit late to get started on something, so I did some research and picked out some techniques that I'd like to try.  I really enjoyed trawling through my files and looking at some of the articles that I have saved.

3rd July - Challenge

art-studio
So after the massive clean up, tidy up and sort out in the studio, I didn't feel too energetic by the evening, so I spent an hour going through my crafting magazines.  Aimee bought me a subscription as a Christmas present, so my routine is to read and keep the magazines for a couple of months.  Following that, I go through them and take out any articles that I may like to look back on and perhaps incorporate some of the ideas in my own work, and I file them.  I got as far as taking them out and putting the articles in plastic file folders, I still need to put them in the file.

I have completed the inside page of the mini book - I really like how it looks.

1st July - Challenge

mini-bookI have been watching Jennibellie on You Tube and decided to give one of the mini books she demonstrated a go.  They are simple and don't take too much time.  I started by cutting the card and painting it with acrylic paint, I have added some paper napkin collage to a couple of the pages - I used Mod Podge for this.  So here is step one.  Please keep checking back to see the progress as the book is decorated.

July Challenge

I have decided to set myself a challenge to work in the studio every day during July - not necessarily to make something from start to finish, but just to do some studio work.  I'll try to blog every day too.

More art journalling and back to UKATC

I had a lovely holiday in Florida in May and bought lots of lovely new crafty bits to use in my studio.  Since I've been back I haven't had too much time to craft, but I have managed to do a couple of pages in my art journal and I have also rejoined the monthly swaps in the UKATC group that I belong to.  I'll load up the ATC's once my partner has received them and in the meantime, I have posted my art journal page.

Further art journalling

I've just discovered Dyan Reaveley and her Dylusions range - I love the stencils and have been inspired by watching her on You Tube.

More of the art journal

art-journal-page
Second page of my art journal; no title, just playing. I am finding this process so calming and theraputic and I'm hoping to find the freedom and confidence to just create without fear of judgement.

Art Journal

art-journal-page
I have decided to have a go at art journalling; I have entitled my first page 'no fear' as I want to have no fear when I work - I just want to play and have fun and express myself. I'm happy with my first page.

Welcome

Hi and welcome to my new style blog. I wanted to change the look of my blog to be more in keeping with my Facebook and Etsy pages. I'm hoping to expand my Etsy shop this year and sell some of my work.

I just wanted to publish some photos of previous work, some of which have been cards and gifts for family and friends, some have been sold and pictures of ATC's are work that I have done for the UKATC group that I swap with each month.
