New project for the New Year!

I know that I am a little early for 2014, but I have just signed up for a year long online mixed media art class - Life Book 2014.  I really enjoyed the online lettering class that I did earlier in the year and when I was reading through blogs that I follow, I came across Life Book and was intrugued.  I think that the format will really suit my learning style and if I'm brave, I'll upload my work for other participants to offer feedback.  Please keep checking back to see my progress.

Thanks for dropping by xox

New Stash

I went along to the Artstamps show at Newbury yesterday and bought some new stash.  Hero Arts are one of my favourite rubberstamp companies and I have been reading about the 'Stamp Your Story' collection - I'm looking forward to using the 'Remember' set that I picked up.  I'm also looking forward to using the Memory Box dies that I picked up.  They are more intricate than other dies I have used.  Finally, what crafter would be without Distress Markers from the Tim Holtz collection at Ranger.  I have a lovely range of the colours to work with now.

I'm on YouTube!

Hi!  I had been thinking of attempting a video to upload to YouTube of my craft room.  I love to see other people's crafty spaces and I have had a couple of requests to do some photos or a video of my crafting space; so with the help of my daughter, Aimee, we recorded, edited and uploaded a video today.  I have to say that I am very excited to see it there and may branch out into some tutorials should I get any requests.  If you'd like to take a look, you can click on this link http://youtu.be/zkNhfZN8QBs and it should take you straight there.

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate you taking the time.

Thank you!

I made a set of 'thank you' cards this week for the girls who had joined me for my crafty birthday tea party.  We all had fun making our memo frames - everyone had the same materials to work with, but we ended up with 8 different styles.

I've just done my online lettering class, so I'm off to the studio now to have a play with my pens and colours before I go out tonight!

Studio Challenge

I was challenged to make a pack of 5 greetings cards and post them up for sale on my Facebook page.  I decided to make the pack up with all the cards being different.

For further details about these cards hop over to my Facebook page.

Online classes

It's been far too long since I blogged.  I've had some time away from work and I have taken part in an online webinar and I have also downloaded some online art classes.  I'm really looking forward to getting to watch the classes and hope to get round to that tomorrow.  I'll be posting up some recent work too.

Drawing Faces - first attempts

Drawing is not something that I have ever been able to master.  I really want to be able to draw a basic face to put into my art journal now that I am using it more regularly.  I have been following jennibellie on her blogspot and on youtube also.  She did a great tutorial on drawing girls faces and thought that I'd like to give it a go.  In her Etsy shop, it is possible to buy 'Creative Juice' a zine that goes through step by step drawing faces.

So you can see my first two attempts - I was pleasantly surprised that what I had produced resembled faces and I'm actually pretty pleased with them.

I printed out the zine for future use and to keep reminding me to practice.

Love - journal page

Over the past couple of days I have been working on a new journal page.  The first photo shows my page prepped with white gesso and then the long wait for it to dry . . . . . .

The second photo shows a background which I have sponged on with dye-based ink

Here in the third photo I have stamped with two different stamps using the same dye-based ink

Using a stencil, I have added white gesso fairly thickly to create textured hearts
To give the hearts depth, I have traced around them with silver Gelato and smudged it with my fingers

Here is the finished page to which I have added my heart with homemade bling on from a few weeks ago and a quote 'Where there is love, there is life' (Gandhi)

Below are a couple of close up photos showing the lovely texture going on

Art Journal Page

I have been working with acrylics in my art journal.  I loved the blues and wanted to add some of the acid green.  It is a superior quality of paint to the blues which I had painted on with a brush; I squeezed the green straight from the tube on to the page and spread it with a paint knife - loving that textured look.

When it had dried, I added some gesso (with fingers) to tone down the colours a little, some charcoal and then used my new Balzer Design stencil with some more acrylic paint - I'm really liking how the page is coming together.

Here is the next layer - some more stencilling and using white acrylic paint on a rubber stamp on the edges of the page.

Finally a quote from author Libba Bray - "But we can't go back.  We can only go forward."  You can't argue with that and I feel that I have really gone forward with this page in my journal.  I'm very happy with it.

Question

Here's a question I often ask myself; do you need to be able to draw to be an artist?  I can't draw, but I love colour and texture and 'playing' with all the different materials in my studio.  Should I consider myself to be an artist?  I'd love to hear your views.

My new light box

My new light box arrived this week and I'm really pleased with it.  The smaller one I had was fine, but I kept getting the 'lip' of it in my photos.  This one seems to be great for me and I look forward to taking some great photos of my work.

Needle Felting

At the end of last week, I went along to The Knitting and Stitching Show at Olympia.  Lots of lovely colours and materials - I wish I could use a sewing machine properly!  I did get a needle felting kit as I had wanted to give this craft a go for some time.

I was pretty pleased with the end result of my first attempt and mounted it in a small frame.

Journal page comes together

I had added some circles with black acrylic and some green and blue metallic acrylic paint letting it run and changing direction.  I thought it would run quicker/further, but I think that I would need to water it down to do that.  I left it dry not knowing how I wanted to finish the page . . . . and then it was clear why I had done circles and lines

More art journalling

I have started working on a new page in my art journal using some of the stencils that I got on my recent US trip.  I love these colours together.

Look what arrived in the post this week!

I got very excited this week when my new 'moo' cards and stickers arrived.

I'm really please with how they have turned out and The JacquieLine Studio logo appears on all my contacts.  I love how dinky the minicards are, just the right size.

Further adventures in Arizona

Here are a couple of pages from my travel journal.  Our first visit was to Fort Huachuca Museum.

The Fort was built on the top of a hill to take full advantage of the 360 degree views all round.

The views were magnificent.

Bob and Colin went off to the firing range whilst the girls went shopping.

In the evening we went to the Cochise Cowboy Poetry & Music Gathering.  We had a great evening.

Back on track!

It's been a quiet couple of weeks in the studio, getting back into routine after my holiday and trying to catch up with everything at work - don't you hate it when holiday washing and ironing and work get in the way of serious crafting?  I managed to get back into the studio this weekend and this was my mood
I made some ATC's for my monthly partner swap.  I decided to make some simple ones as I had lots that I wanted to catch up on.  I posted them off this morning before realising that I had not taken pictures of them.  Talking of taking pictures, I have been enjoying taking better quality pictures and part of that is due to the light tent that I have been using.

I decided that I would like to have a slightly bigger light tent as I have been challenged with how small my original tent is.  Aimee had offered to lend me her one as she knew it was bigger; just not sure how much bigger.

I think that it may be a little bit too large - what do you think?

An exciting day

It's an exciting day, I have made my 30 'likes' on my Facebook page.  This will allow me to look at where my audience is and how to widen to audience to get my little business off the ground.  Thank you to all my supporters.

Holiday haul and travel journal

So today I unpacked all my crafting goodies that I'd bought on our US trip.  I oooh-ed and aaah-ed at everything, I'd bought so many exciting things.   After unpacking and integrating everything into my studio, I got on with the travel journal - I had started it when we were away, but time just flew and got away from me and I got so far behind, it seemed impossible to catch up - I have our first couple of days pretty much done.  I've done the main parts and if I decide not to do any more  page (barring the title page) I'm going to be happy with it.  I'm not sure how I want the first page to look yet.

Work in progress

I've been working on a couple of projects today.  I saw this one on Pinterest and thought I'd give it a go.  Waiting for it to dry now before I can finish it off .

A quiet week

Very little going on crafting wise this week, 5 of the 7 of us have been struck by the winter bug and I can't remember the last time I felt so poorly! I only managed an ATC and a very pretty blinged up heart. I made the bling after watching Jenniebellie on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZJdlLUd_u4&list=UULcCpPlstxRVN-Bi7cll8MA&index=2)

Ooops!

Following my post yesterday and having waited overnight for the glue to dry properly on my mini album, I went to work on it this morning only to find out that I had stuck some of the papers on the wrong side of the envelope and had therefore closed up my pockets!  So glad that I used cheapy envelopes and papers that I had received free!  Good job that I did a dummy run first!  Hee, hee, hee - lesson learned!

Keeping up the creativity

I have been able to spend some time in the studio each day, even if only for 20 minutes!  I have been playing around with an envelope mini that I have seen in several different formats on YouTube.  Most of the tutorials are from the US so I have had to change some of the measurements.

Anyway, I didn't want to go straight for it without trying a mock-up first using some papers that I had received with a magazine.  So this is how it's looking so far; tomorrow I will have a go at the cover using some recycled cereal boxes.
The first picture will be where I need to attach the cover and the pictures above and to the left are a couple of pictures of the inside of the album.

Renewing my creative energy

I've had to stay indoors today and have taken the opportunity to do lots of odd jobs including having a post Christmas tidy up in the studio. I've changed round the order of the things that I keep out on my desk, I've taken my most used Sizzix dies out of their packs and found a nice storage box to keep them in - they are accessible all the time without having to fiddle with the packaging. I always find clearing and tidying in the studio renews my creative energy!

Happy New Year Everyone!

I have got the year off to a flying start; ATC's for the themed swaps in my group and a 1st of the year birthday card.

I'm off to start on a new type of journal now using some prompts.
