Art Journal Page

I have been working with acrylics in my art journal.  I loved the blues and wanted to add some of the acid green.  It is a superior quality of paint to the blues which I had painted on with a brush; I squeezed the green straight from the tube on to the page and spread it with a paint knife - loving that textured look.

When it had dried, I added some gesso (with fingers) to tone down the colours a little, some charcoal and then used my new Balzer Design stencil with some more acrylic paint - I'm really liking how the page is coming together.

Here is the next layer - some more stencilling and using white acrylic paint on a rubber stamp on the edges of the page.

Finally a quote from author Libba Bray - "But we can't go back.  We can only go forward."  You can't argue with that and I feel that I have really gone forward with this page in my journal.  I'm very happy with it.

Question

Here's a question I often ask myself; do you need to be able to draw to be an artist?  I can't draw, but I love colour and texture and 'playing' with all the different materials in my studio.  Should I consider myself to be an artist?  I'd love to hear your views.

My new light box

My new light box arrived this week and I'm really pleased with it.  The smaller one I had was fine, but I kept getting the 'lip' of it in my photos.  This one seems to be great for me and I look forward to taking some great photos of my work.

Needle Felting

At the end of last week, I went along to The Knitting and Stitching Show at Olympia.  Lots of lovely colours and materials - I wish I could use a sewing machine properly!  I did get a needle felting kit as I had wanted to give this craft a go for some time.

I was pretty pleased with the end result of my first attempt and mounted it in a small frame.

Journal page comes together

I had added some circles with black acrylic and some green and blue metallic acrylic paint letting it run and changing direction.  I thought it would run quicker/further, but I think that I would need to water it down to do that.  I left it dry not knowing how I wanted to finish the page . . . . and then it was clear why I had done circles and lines

More art journalling

I have started working on a new page in my art journal using some of the stencils that I got on my recent US trip.  I love these colours together.

Look what arrived in the post this week!

I got very excited this week when my new 'moo' cards and stickers arrived.

I'm really please with how they have turned out and The JacquieLine Studio logo appears on all my contacts.  I love how dinky the minicards are, just the right size.

Further adventures in Arizona

Here are a couple of pages from my travel journal.  Our first visit was to Fort Huachuca Museum.

The Fort was built on the top of a hill to take full advantage of the 360 degree views all round.

The views were magnificent.

Bob and Colin went off to the firing range whilst the girls went shopping.

In the evening we went to the Cochise Cowboy Poetry & Music Gathering.  We had a great evening.

Back on track!

It's been a quiet couple of weeks in the studio, getting back into routine after my holiday and trying to catch up with everything at work - don't you hate it when holiday washing and ironing and work get in the way of serious crafting?  I managed to get back into the studio this weekend and this was my mood
I made some ATC's for my monthly partner swap.  I decided to make some simple ones as I had lots that I wanted to catch up on.  I posted them off this morning before realising that I had not taken pictures of them.  Talking of taking pictures, I have been enjoying taking better quality pictures and part of that is due to the light tent that I have been using.

I decided that I would like to have a slightly bigger light tent as I have been challenged with how small my original tent is.  Aimee had offered to lend me her one as she knew it was bigger; just not sure how much bigger.

I think that it may be a little bit too large - what do you think?
