Three from the studio this week

Hello

I hope that you have been enjoying some lovely weather, I certainly have. It's almost like summer.

This week has been a little quiet in the studio as I had a housewarming party for my family and I became a little preoccupied with my preparations. However, I do have some things that I want to share with you.  As part of my blog makeover I have been thinking about working to improve photographs that I post.  I will often use the camera on my phone and I really want to make more use of my new camera.  When I have used the camera previously, I often find that the images are out of focus; this is because I am trying to produce a close up picture, but I tend to shake.  I decided that it was time to invest in a tripod. I won't bore you with the details of actually getting it delivered, but I was happy to see its arrival on Monday.

I had hoped that it would be here for the weekend as I was going to go on a mini photography trip with my daughter on Sunday.  I ended up borrowing her tripod and using it in the garden and on some finished cards in the studio.

Taking these photos reminded me why I love to have my studio overlooking the garden - the colours.  The weather at the weekend was glorious and it just made the colours pop.  The acer is a beautiful red and just look at the colour of the stamens in the lily.  If I need any inspiration for a colour theme, I can always look out onto the garden and find a colour theme to use.

Lastly for this week, the blog makeover continues and I really want to keep this as a surprise, so keep checking back for the biggest change.

Thank you for looking in and I hope you have a good week.

Background work, an experiment and a haul

Hi everyone

I hope you have all had a good week.  This week saw me thinking a lot about how I want to move forward with The JacquieLine Studio, this blog, my Facebook page and Twitter etc.

My first decision has been to post my blog on a different day.  I chose Wednesday as it is half way through the week, the weekend may still feel a long way off and people may like to have something to browse at mid week.

In my last post I said that I had been working on some backgrounds and that I would be experimenting further.  The following watercolour background was so much fun to do.  It felt like being a child again.

In this first photo the background is still wet and I have covered it with cling film and squished it (that is a technical term!)

In this second photo the background is dry and you can see that I couldn't wait to play with it before I'd taken a photo.  I really like how these backgrounds turn out.  Having taken a big chunk out of the background, I thought you may like to see what I had used it for. Using some heart dies from Memory Box (http://memoryboxco.com) I cut a background from the paper and with plain white card, I cut a 'topper' for the heart.

It's so pretty and you can see all the background 'texture' through the scroll work of the topper.  I haven't yet decided what I want to use the finished heart on yet.

By the time I had finished the background I was in an experimental mood and decided to try a new technique using an embossing folder.  This was another of my You Tube finds.

I used a lovely Christmas tree embossing folder that I have not had much success with in the past, a VersaMark ink pad, a brayer and gold embossing powder.

I was fairly pleased with the outcome, but the technique needs some work as you need to be very careful not to get the ink onto parts of the card that have not been embossed.

After all that experimentation, I went a little dotty and think this is such a fun card.

To finish off my week, I received a haul which I had ordered from the US.  It was a bit like Christmas in May!  Simon Says Stamp (http://www.simonsaysstamp.com) has an incredible website and I have often looked through their pages and considered ordering. They offer a huge range of crafting supplies and I always knew that my problem would be that I wouldn't know when to stop ordering.

Look at all the lovely new stamps and dies that I have to play with! Stop by next week and I'll have some photos of my first attempts with these.

Don't forget that Wednesday is the new day and thank you for looking in this week.

Blog post changing day!

Hi everyone

Just a really short blog today to let you know that I will now be posting on Wednesday as opposed to Monday.

I hope to see you there on Wednesday where I'll show you my most recent background work.

You Tube inspiration

Can you believe that it's already May - this year is just flying by.

I love looking for inspiration on You Tube and Pinterest and decided to have a You Tube-athon to catch up with those people I follow.  I lose track of time when I start looking on You Tube, Pinterest, Bloglovin etc so I need to be careful that I don't have anywhere to be in a hurry.

One of my favourite rubber stamp companies is Penny Black (http://pennyblackinc.com) and I enjoy watching the Penny Black and Jill Foster PB&J Card Classes.  I came across a class that had been uploaded a year ago with a stamp that I have had in my collection for some time.  It was entitled 'Gesso Resist with Distress Ink' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-CXDVU-kwY) and I was immediately interested.  I like doing resist work, by nature of how it works, it's a bit like a surprise as the resist 'element' is clear or at least the same colour as the card you are working on.  These are my take on that tutorial.

Gesso Resist with Distress Ink - Orange

My tendency is to stick to those people I 'follow' on You Tube but I decided to stray a little looking for some different ideas and came across several ideas on backgrounds.  I had a go with a watercolour background (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8p7c8QJInV8) and the following is how I decided to use the background I'd created.

Watercolour background - hello

I'm going to play around with some more backgrounds as they are fun, easy to do and don't require too much time, so that even when I can only be in the studio for half an hour or so, I feel that my creative urge has been satisfied.

Thank you for checking out my blog this week and if there is anything that you would like to see on here, leave me a message in the comments below.

Photo Notes

Hi!

Just a quick post following my photo frenzy earlier in the week.

I really liked the picture of the cherry blossom that I had taken and wanted to use it again. I printed the photo out on gloss photo paper and chose 9 prints on the page.  I cut them down and mounted them on kraft cardstock and made them into note cards with a simple stamped greeting on.

I have a lovely friend who has posted a couple of notes to me recently and as she had said, it is still nice to receive post through the door.  I agree as the majority of my post contain requests for money!

I have posted off these notelets to some friends and hope that they enjoy using them.

Thank you for stopping by again this week.
